BuddyUp: an app designed to help keep people safe while injecting drugs alone
BuddyUp is an app provided by Cranstoun, in conjunction with the Brave Technology Cooperation in Canada who originally developed this idea and app.
The idea is simple, people who are using drugs alone can download the app and be connected to a Cranstoun volunteer who will monitor their responsiveness. A rescue plan is built by the user to be used in the event of an emergency. The plan is only activated if the app user become unresponsive. It will send an emergency message to them, triggering the appropriate medical attention. This app is designed to prevent avoidable, fatal overdose.
Digital Lifelines Scotland have been working with Cranstoun to assist them in increasing the app usage across Scotland and we have attached some promotional material (poster, leaflet, and card with QR code) for you to share with as many partners as possible in order to spread the word by displaying in relevant premises or handing to supported users.
